Awash National Park

Awash National Park remains an important natural and cultural heritage site in Ethiopia, offering visitors the opportunity to experience the country's unique wildlife and landscapes while supporting conservation efforts.

Erta Ale and Dallol

Erta Ale and Dallol are two fascinating geological sites located in the Afar Region of north-eastern Ethiopia.

Erta Ale: is an active shield volcano, known for its persistent lava lake, one of the few in the world. The volcano has been erupting continuously for over a century, with its last major eruption occurring in 2005. Its name translates to "smoking mountain" in the local Afar language. Erta Ale is situated in the Danakil Depression, a low-lying area known for its extreme temperatures and harsh conditions.

Dallol: Located near the northern part of the Afar Region, is famous for its otherworldly landscapes and colorful hydrothermal features. It holds the record for the highest average temperature ever recorded for an inhabited location on Earth, making it one of the hottest places on the planet. Dallol was once a mining town for potash, sulfur, and other minerals, but it is now primarily a tourist destination due to its unique geological formations and extreme environment.

Both Erta Ale and Dallol offer visitors a glimpse into the powerful forces of nature and the stunning beauty that can arise from volcanic activity and hydrothermal processes. However, they also present significant challenges due to their remote locations and harsh climates, making them destinations for adventurous travellers seeking unique experiences.
