Harar City

Bale

Bale, also known as Bale Robe, is a town located in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It serves as the administrative center of the Bale Zone. The history of Bale dates back centuries, with the area being inhabited by various ethnic groups, including the Oromo people.

Bale has historically been an important trading hub due to its strategic location along trade routes connecting different regions of Ethiopia. The town has also been known for its agricultural activities, particularly the cultivation of coffee, which is one of Ethiopia's primary exports.

Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa

Arrival at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Day 2: Addis Ababa - Drive to Awash National Park

After breakfast, depart from Addis Ababa towards Awash National Park, located approximately 225 km east of the capital.

Arrive at Awash National Park in the afternoon.

Check-in at your lodge or campsite.

Enjoy a game drive in the park, where you can spot wildlife such as oryx, kudu, baboons, and more.

Day 3: Awash National Park

Full day exploring Awash National Park.

Early morning game drive for the best chances of spotting wildlife.

Visit the beautiful Awash Falls and take a nature walk in the park.

Optional activities include bird watching and visiting local villages.

Day 4: Awash National Park - Drive to Harar

After breakfast, depart from Awash National Park towards the ancient city of Harar, located about 300 km east of Awash.

Arrive in Harar in the afternoon.

Check-in at your hotel.

Explore the old walled city of Harar, known for its unique culture, vibrant markets, and narrow alleys.

Visit landmarks such as the Rimbaud House, Harar Museum, and the colorful markets.

Witness the famous hyena feeding ritual at night (optional).

Day 5: Harar

Full day exploring Harar.

Visit the ancient city walls and gates, including the famous Jugol, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After breakfast, depart from Harar towards the Bale Mountains National Park, located approximately 320 km southwest of Harar.

Arrive at Bale Mountains in the afternoon.

Depending on your arrival time, you may take a short hike or nature walk around the lodge area.

Day 7: Bale Mountains

Full day exploring Bale Mountains National Park.

Take a guided trek in search of the endemic Ethiopian wildlife, including the Ethiopian wolf, mountain nyala, and various bird species.

Visit the stunning Sanetti Plateau, the highest plateau in Africa.

Day 9: Bale Mountains - Drive to Awassa

After breakfast, depart from Bale Mountains towards Awassa, a picturesque city located approximately 300 km southwest of Bale.

Arrive in Awassa in the afternoon.

Explore the city and visit attractions such as Lake Awassa and the bustling fish market.

Day 10: Awassa - Drive to Arba Minch

After breakfast, depart from Awassa towards Arba Minch, located approximately 270 km southwest of Awassa.

En route, visit the Dorze village known for its unique traditional houses and weaving.

Arrive in Arba Minch in the afternoon.

Day 11: Arba Minch - Lake Chamo Boat Safari
