Lalibela History: Lalibela is a town in northern Ethiopia known for its monolithic rock-cut churches. It was once the capital of the Zagwe dynasty in the late 12th and 13th centuries. King Lalibela, after whom the town is named, is credited with the creation of these remarkable structures, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Gondar History: Gondar, often referred to as the "Camelot of Africa," was the capital of the Ethiopian Empire from the 17th to the 19th centuries. It is renowned for its medieval castles and churches, built by various emperors during this period.

The Simien Mountains: Located in northern Ethiopia, are a UNESCO World Heritage site and are often referred to as the "Roof of Africa." They have been formed over millions of years by volcanic activity and erosion, creating the dramatic landscape seen today.

Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa

Arrive at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.

Transfer to your hotel and check-in.

Depending on your arrival time, you can explore some of the city's attractions such as the National Museum, Holy Trinity Cathedral, or the Merkato, one of the largest open-air markets in Africa.

Day 2: Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar

After breakfast, fly from Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar.

Upon arrival, visit the Blue Nile Falls, locally known as Tis Issat, meaning "smoking water."

In the afternoon, take a boat trip on Lake Tana to visit some of the monasteries located on the islands.

Day 3: Bahir Dar to Gondar

Drive from Bahir Dar to Gondar, known for its well-preserved 17th-century castles and churches.

Visit the Royal Enclosure, Fasil Ghebbi, and Debre Berhan Selassie Church, famous for its ceiling adorned with angelic faces.

Day 4: Gondar to Simien Mountains National Park

Depart early for Simien Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning scenery and unique wildlife.

Enjoy a day of trekking or hiking in the park, with opportunities to spot endemic wildlife such as the gelada baboon and Ethiopian wolf.

Overnight camping or in lodges within the park.

Day 5: Simien Mountains National Park to Axum

Drive from Simien Mountains to Axum, the ancient capital of the Aksumite Empire.

Visit the famous stelae fields, the Church of St. Mary of Zion, and the ruins of Queen of Sheba's Palace.

Day 6: Axum to Mekele

Depart for Mekele, the capital of the Tigray region.

En route, visit the Yeha Temple, one of the oldest standing structures in Ethiopia.

Upon arrival in Mekele, explore the local market and relax.

Day 7: Mekele to Lalibela

Drive from Mekele to Lalibela, home to the famous rock-hewn churches.

Spend the afternoon exploring the first group of churches, including Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Golgotha, and others.

Day 8: Lalibela

Spend the day exploring the remaining rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, including the Northern and Eastern clusters.

Optionally, visit the nearby Asheton Maryam Monastery for panoramic views of the surroundings.

Day 9: Lalibela to Awash

Drive from Lalibela to Awash National Park, known for its diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes.

Upon arrival, embark on a game drive in the park to spot animals such as oryx, kudu, and various bird species.

Visit the Awash Falls, a scenic highlight of the park.

Day 10: Awash to Harar

Depart for Harar, one of the oldest cities in Ethiopia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Explore the walled city, including the colorful markets, mosques, and historic buildings.

Don't miss the Hyena Man performance in the evening, where locals feed hyenas by hand.

Day 11: Harar

Spend the day further exploring Harar, visiting attractions like the Rimbaud House, Harari Museum, and the 16th-century Jami Mosque.

Optionally, take a day trip to Babile Elephant Sanctuary or the ancient walled city of Jugol.

Drive back to Addis Ababa.
